FinCEN Honors Law Enforcement

untitled (5)In what can cynically be described as a “our work is relevant” party, on May 12, 2015, FinCEN hosted its first Law Enforcement Awards ceremony.  FinCEN acknowledged that one of the motivations for the ceremony was to “provide concrete evidence of the value of BSA data to the financial industry.”

The work done by BSA professionals can often seem irrelevant to the BSA’s goals of fighting crime and terrorism.  FinCEN hopes that by spotlighting cases where BSA data was used successfully in law enforcement, BSA professionals will recognize the value of the work they do.

FinCEN appears to have five categories of awards:

  1. SAR Review/Task Force Category
  2. Third Party Money Launderers Category
  3. Transnational Organized Crime Category
  4. Cyber Threats Category
  5. Cyber Threats Category
  6. Transnational Security Threats Category
